PRESS RELEASE
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Troy, New York / January, 2004 -- An innovative method of removing heavy and toxic metals from water reservoir systems called “Magnetic Remediation Method (MRM)” was recently invented and published by Dr. Arona Ndoffene Diouf, PhD, in Geochimica Cosmochimica Acta, an internationally recognized scientific journal.
“The
purpose of the MRM”, said Distinguished Professor G.M. Friedman, President of
the Northeastern Science Foundation, “was to isolate the biogenic iron minerals
produced by microorganisms such as the magnetotactic bacteria and other iron
bacteria present in our water resources and oil pipes by imposing in them an
induced (calculated) magnetic field
intensity greater than that one of the Earth Geomagnetic field (EGMF)”.
Dr Diouf has designed the “Magnetic Remediation Method (MRM)” (patented) at the Laborator
y of the
Rensselaer Research Center of Applied Geology and Environmental Sciences in
Troy, New York, USA. Dr. Diouf, who earned a double major Master and PhD in
Earth and Environmental Sciences at the City University of New York’s Graduate
Center (CUNY), has over fifteen years experience in research, teaching, and
consulting in the geoscience domain. Most of his research is focused on the
global issues of water quality and treatment, the biocorrosion problems in oil
and gas industry, the use of biogenic materials as field sensors for tracing
paleoenvironments on Earth, and finding of traces of ancient life in meteorites
from outer space.
Dr.
Diouf has had some of his research findings published in many scientific
journals and magazines around the world such as; Geochimica Cosmochimica Acta, the
Geomichemical Journal of Japan, Frontiers of Geochemistry Journal, Northeastern
Environmental Sciences Journal, the Water is Life Magazine, JCBOED Science Times
and many others.
According
to Dr Diouf, “Metallic and radioactive pollutants in soil and groundwater
constitute major environmental problems around the world. Iron and other heavy
metals are found in most of the Earth’s groundwaters and water reservoirs that
supply our municipals and cities’ water. These pollutants present significant
environmental and health hazards since they are highly mobile with an elevated
toxicity level. Most physical and chemical methods have been developed to treat
such contaminants, but, unfortunately each of these technologies has been proven
to be health threatening for humans and animals or simply very expensive for
farmers to adopt”.
“The MRM
of Dr Diouf”, said Distinguished Professor Friedman, “is a low cost way of
remediating metal-contaminated groundwaters, water reservoirs, and oil pipes.
Significant dissolved ion-metals have been immobilized and remediated in
environmentally safe conditions during the research. This new invention could be
a permanent solution to heavy metals pollution problems in the world’s water
resource systems.”
Dr. Diouf is a diplomat of the
“Water is Life Foundation” (WLF), founder of the International Environmental
Firm Inc. (IEF-USA), and Science Research Coordinator at J. Ferris HS, Jersey
City Public Schools. His
talent and knowledge of the geosciences has taken him to many international
conferences around the world, and he has conducted numerous lectures,
instructional workshops and seminars.
